Wine Caps

Strain Profile

Wine Caps, also commonly known as King Stropharia or Garden Giant, are considered a choice gourmet mushroom.  With a rich burgundy cap, they can grow to astonishing size with some single specimens having been recorded at over 2kg!

Wine Caps grow best in an outdoor bed. Woodchips, or mulched straw, are inoculated with spawn and once colonised will produce mushrooms seasonally for years!  Just feed the bed with straw or wood chips and water occasionally.  This strain will fruit twice annually, in Spring and Autumn.

This species is versatile in its placement possibilities in the garden – it can withstand direct sunlight with only minimal or occasional shade.

With a low technical requirement to set up, and low maintenance once established, Wine Caps make an excellent beginner variety for home cultivation.

This strain fruits from 16-21˚c.
